पर्यावरण पर प्रभाव

विद्युत अपशिष्ट में घातक, मूल्यवान और दुर्लभ सामग्री होती है, और जटिल इलेक्ट्रॉनिक्स में 60 तत्व तक पाए जा सकते हैं।

संयुक्त राज्य अमेरिका और चीन इलेक्ट्रॉनिक कचरे के उत्पादन में विश्व में अग्रणी हैं, प्रत्येक वर्ष लगभग 3 मिलियन टन फेंकते हैं। विकसित देशों के लिए चीन एक प्रमुख ई-कचरा डंपिंग ग्राउंड भी बना हुआ है। यूएनईपी का अनुमान है कि भारत जैसे कुछ विकासशील देशों में अगले दशक में मोबाइल फोन और कंप्यूटर सहित ई-कचरे का उत्पादन 500 प्रतिशत तक बढ़ सकता है।
