This template is used for marking places in Wikipedia entries which need to be updated later. For a list of all entries for the year which need updating, see [What links here].

To use, simply put {{Update nnnn}} after the item which should be updated, much as you would a footnote. The template should follow any footnote marks or similar stuff. Nnnn should be replaced by the year in which the item should be updated.
This template is intended as a replacement for the As of technique, which violates Wikipedia convention by linking text to administrative material.
For discussion:
- This template probably needs to be renamed to "Update xxxx" or "Review xxxx", or something similar, which sounds more natural than "As of xxxx" in this context.
- A marker is currently inserted in the text, so that editors can see that it's already marked, and will know where to look to find the area which needs review or updating. Might want to make marker visible only to editors (people signed in), if possible. This can be done if there's a magic word for the userID. If the date is expired, the marker is replaced by a message, such as "update needed" or "review needed".
- Once tested and seems to do what is intended, need to see about updating the As of pages to announce this, and deprecate the use of As of.
