  1. Cubic interpolation is not unique: this model using a Catmull-Rom spline and Lagrange basis polynomials passes through all four points. Note: If the black point is left of the yellow point, the yellow horizontal distance is negative; if the black point is on the right of the green point, the green horizontal distance is negative.
