DescriptionCSIRO ScienceImage 2955 Robert J Tillyard 18811937.jpg
English: Robin J. Tillyard, appointed CSIR first Chief Entomologist in March 1928. The division of Entomology was one of CSIR's first Divisions, formed in 1927. Tillyard completed the mathematics tripos at Queen's College, Cambridge, then read oriental languages and theology with the intention of entering the Church. A change of mind, however, led him to accept a position at Sydney Grammar School teaching science and mathematics. His passionate interest in dragonflies saw him make many contributions to the Linnaean Society of New South Wales. He eventually resigned as a school teacher and completed in zoology at the University of Sydney.
