English: The image above shows part of the filter structure of the Antarctic krill: The first order filter setae have the second order setae attached to them. The second order setae are aligned in rows, these rows form a v-shape, the v shape of the setae are aligned towards the inside of the feeding basket. The purple ball shown trapped in the second order setae is one micrometer big, it is possible that this is a bacterium. To display the total area of this fascinating structure one would have to reproduce this image tile 7500 times.
Français : L'image représente en fausses couleurs une partie de la structure du filtre du fr:krill antarctique : les soies de premier ordre portent des soies de second ordre. Ces dernières sont alignées en forme de V, en direction du gosier. La boule rose montrée coincée dans les soies du second ordre mesure un micron, il est possible que ce soit une bactérie. Pour représenter toute la surface de cette structure fascinante, il faudrait juxtaposer 7500 exemplaires de cette image.
